We moved!

Kiki's 🤝 Brooklyn

Welcome back!

Erik and I moved to Brooklyn, NY about 3 weeks ago. Our apartment is still very much a work in progress, but I wanted to share some photos of how things are looking so far.

Our apartment is railroad-style so it only has windows on either end of the unit. You’ll notice in the pictures we’ve been using a lot of lamps to bring light into the middle of the apartment. Erik also installed some under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, which made a huge difference. He tried out two different systems for this project and found this one to be not only easier to install, but also the cheaper of the two. It’s a strip of LED lights that you can cut (he used our kitchen scissors) to any length. He used this to connect the strips.

Facebook Marketplace here is a treasure trove. We quickly found some essential pieces we were missing.

The first item on our list was a dresser. I pinned this amazing dresser a while back and searched in both Nashville and New York to find something similar.

This is the dresser we ended up going with!

Facebook Marketplace is an unmatched source for finding well-made, solid wood pieces at an affordable price.

We also picked up these swivel counter stools. Erik gave me quite a few requirements for our counter stools (comfortable, swivel, backrest, footrest). I will share my endorsement for these counter stools if you are looking for some. They really do check all the boxes and are solid and well-made. Maybe my favorite thing about them is that while they do have a backrest, it’s not super tall—allowing you to still see across the counter without obstruction.

I can’t find the Marketplace listing, but we also picked up this cabinet we’re using as extra storage in our bathroom. Our bathroom is tiled from floor to ceiling—eliminating traditional shelves and hooks, and also making it hard to hang any artwork. I like the mix of open and closed shelving that this cabinet offers. I can display some art to bring other colors into the room, but also hide a lot of extra toiletries.

For anyone else moving into a smaller space (or really any space with limited storage), one hack I noticed (even though it wasn’t intentional) that has made a big difference: a lot of our furniture has hidden storage. Our coffee table lifts and holds all of our extra candles, coasters, and other odds and ends. The bench of the couch in the dining room also lifts and stores all of our extra bedding. We were able to save so much space that we actually ended up using one of the closets in the living room as Erik’s “office.”

We have so many exciting Savor updates coming soon! I will leave this photo here to tease just one of our new recipes and experiences 👀. Follow us @savor.cooking on Instagram to stay in the loop!

Thank you to all of our amazing friends and family who supported us through this transition. We are super excited to continue exploring our new neighborhood, so please share any New York/Brooklyn recommendations!

Thank you so much for reading!

Love,
Christina
